iPad Tips and Tricks
__How do I "pass out" word processing documents to my students to edit and then "collect" the work from my students to print from my computer?
_Quick Office and Dropbox
_QuickOffice, along with many other apps, Quick Office automatically
uploads content that you've created to Drop Box to "collect work". You
can set up folders for organization. Create a class Dropbox
account for saving files. Careful when sharing an account because one
student could delete everyone's files! User your ccsd15.net email
address. Use a password that you are willing to share with students when
you want the students to set up their dropbox "box" on their iPads.
_On the iPad, here's how to add the Drop Box account in Quick Office:
Step 1
Click on the little plus sign in the left corner and select Dropbox.
Step 2
Enter your email address and the EASY password that you've set up. (Remember to change your password at the Drobbox website under account.

What do I do if any of my apps get deleted?
Did you know that you could see any apps that have been purchased on the account that you have been provided? Any apps that other teachers have found and downloaded are on a "purchased list". You can access those from the iTunes Store!

I want to find and share images for my students to use in their eBook. The easiest way to do that is to collect some images from Google, ones you've taken with your camera or any other source, save them in a folder and upload them to Dropbox. The students can access your pictures folder in your Dropbox account and save the pictures they need into the photo collection on their iPad.

How to I take a picture of what is on the screen?
That's called a "screenshot". If you need to take a screen capture image of what's on your iPod screen - perhaps you created a picture using a drawing application or there was something on a website you wanted to remember or make a note about, just hold down the power button at the top and the home button on the face of the iPod. You'll hear a "camera" sound. Check the Camera roll for the image you just took.

How do I create an exit slip, quiz, writing prompt, or other type of assessment that would be easy for students to create on their iPads?
If your school district uses Google Apps for Education, the best and easiest way to create an assessment that can be used multiple times is to create a Google Form.
1. From Google Docs, click Create New Form 2. Google Forms is very flexible! You can create a form that includes multiple choice, short answer, scale, and many other type of questions. 3. The results populate into a spreadsheet where the results can be manipulated. Here are a couple of hints: - If you want the student responses to be organized by last name, make sure you create a question for first name and another question for last name. - If your team mates are sharing the same form for a specific activity, you can have ALL students from every class populate the same spreadsheet (as part of collaborating as a PLC). Just include a question for room number - Once you start to manipulate the spreadsheet (chaging columns) the form will stop collecting results. The best way to handle the results without voiding the from is to download the results into an Excel spreadsheet (under the file menu) Socrative
There's an app for that! As an alternative to a set of student response systems, download the app for teachers and students of Socrative (both free).
From the iTunes site, features include: "✔ Short Answer Questions: Ask an open-ended question. Students respond and all their answers populate your screen for projection. Then ask students to vote on their favorite and watch the results come in. ✔ Quick Quiz: A teacher paced or student paced activity with multiple choice and/or short answer questions. Results can be viewed question by question and exported to a report that is automatically aggregated and graded. ✔ Create a Quiz: Design your own Quick Quizzes with our built in feature or import them with our Excel template. Share with your community! ✔ Space Race: Teams of students answer multiple choice questions in this fast-paced rocket race game. First team to get their rocket across the screen wins! You’ll get a graded report! ✔ Exit Tickets: Get a quick, paper-free pulse-check at the end of class. All answers are aggregated into a report! ✔ Multiple Choice: Ask a MC question, and see student responses on the projection screen as a bar chart." |
